Health Insurance
We Help Find the Best Health Insurance Plan for You, Your Family, and Your Budget.
In 2010, a health care reform law was enacted to make health insurance more accessible and affordable for individuals and families who didn’t have employer coverage. It’s known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), often called “Obamacare”.
The ACA made health insurance available to everyone, including people with pre-existing conditions. Insurance companies can no longer deny coverage based on health history, helping millions of Americans gain access to insurance.
Premiums are based mainly on factors such as age, location, and tobacco use — not medical history. While coverage isn’t free, many individuals and families qualify for federal subsidies that help lower their monthly premium costs.
What is the ACA Marketplace (Exchange)?
In 2014 came the ACA Marketplace, or “exchange” — a service to help individuals and families shop for, compare, and enroll in private health insurance plans. It offers plans to cover 10 essential health benefits, including prescription drugs, hospitalization, and mental health services, with financial subsidies available for eligible individuals to lower monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs.
The Marketplace exchange varies by state. Some states operate their own Marketplace exchange website, while others use the federal Marketplace, HealthCare.gov. Regardless of whether the exchange is run by the state or the federal government, the plans must follow the same ACA rules and provide the same essential health benefits.
